2019 TAHIT Educational Symposium
Pre-Approved Continuing Education

Texas Board of Nursing

Learning Outcome Statement: The Registered Nurse will know the advances and best practices in interpreting, translation and culturally and linguistically appropriate care for patients with Limited English Proficiency, thereby fostering professional development and improving patient outcomes.  Nurses who participate in this symposium will receive up to 14.33 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours. You must be present for the entire presentation of the session you attended to obtain credit.  All planners, presenters and content experts have disclosed absence of a conflict of interest relative to this continuing nursing educational activity.

This education activity is being joint provided by University of Texas Medical Branch Continuing Nursing Education and TAHIT. “University of Texas Medical Branch Continuing Nursing Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association – Approver, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.”

Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)

CCHI has pre-approved the Pre-symposium Boot Camp for 4.0 Continuing Education Hours; CCHI has approved the 2019 TAHIT Symposium for up to 12.25 Continuing Education Hours, for an pre-event and event total of 16.25 Continuing Education Hours.  The actual number of awarded CE Hours will depend upon your registration and attendance to individual sessions.  Performance-based (PB) CEs are offered. Those that are PB are notated on the schedule of events. 

Board for the Evaluation of Interpreters (Texas BEI)

BEI has approved the 2019 TAHIT Educational Symposium and Pre-symposium Bootcamp for 4.325 CEUs.  Attendees can earn up to a maximum of 1.825 CEUs.  The actual number of CEUs awarded will depend on the number of sessions that registrants attend.

American Translators Association (ATA)

The ATA has approved the 2019 TAHIT Educational Symposium for 10 Continuing Education Credits.  Attendees will need to submit their certificate of attendance.

Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (TSID/RID)

TSID  approved the 2019 TAHIT Educational Symposium and Pre-symposium Bootcamp for 4.63 CEUs.  Of the total CEUs being offered, 4.2 are Professional Studies, and 0.4 are General Studies.  Attendees will not earn all of the approved CEUs, as some sessions are concurrent.  The CEU value for each session will be listed in the schedule of events.  

International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA/NBCMI)

The 2019 Pre-symposium Boot Camp and the 2019 TAHIT Symposium have been approved for up to 13 contact hours (1.3 IMIA/NBCMI CEUs) with verified attendance.  The actual number of awarded CEUs will depend upon your attendance to specific presentations.  

While the IMIA and NBCMI have approved  the event CEUs, they are the last remaining certifying body to determine if they will accept electronic tracking of CEUs, the standard practice for TAHIT.  Please contact the IMIA Director of Outreach directly at outreach@imiaweb.org for any questions or concerns.
