TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF HEALTHCARE INTERPRETERS AND TRANSLATORS (TAHIT)
PURPOSES: To establish a unity in purpose, procedures and ethics of all healthcare interpreters and translators in the state of Texas; to abide by the code of ethics and standards of practice accepted and ratified by the association; to achieve formal recognition by the greater healthcare community of our work as a profession; to promote networking for the exchange of information; to promote professional development for healthcare interpreters and translators; and to determine the feasibility of scholarship awards as finances improve upon recommendation of the treasurer.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE: The Board of Directors includes the president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and the chairpersons of each committee. At any time, as the board chooses to expand its numbers, the number must always be odd. Voting occurs primarily through e-polling conducted on-line.
COMMITTEES: Membership, Outreach, and Professional Development. Each committee will have one chairperson. Members can volunteer for any position on the committees with approval from the Board of Directors. If the need arises for additional positions on a committee, which require a hierarchical arrangement, it will be voted upon by the entire membership.
FINANCES: Dues for the organization will be assessed annually by the treasurer, as established by the Board of Directors.
ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT OF ASSOCIATION: This is a voluntary, uncompensated organization for all individuals interested in the field of healthcare interpreting and translating. Every member has an equal voice in the organization. All members may voice their opinion, raise a concern, or make suggestions on the listserv, for all members to view and comment upon. The listserv is the main means of communication and therefore administration.
CHANGES TO BY-LAWS: It is anticipated that these by-laws may change as the organization grows and will require modifications in its leadership structure. Any and all fundamental changes to be considered at convention under two-thirds rule of attendees will be submitted for consideration, followed by an e-poll sent to all members through the listserv, in which the 2/3 majority opinion will be adopted. The polling is conducted automatically through the listserv, so that transparency can be assured.
